About Image Compressor
Compression trades detail for bytes, and the useful range is narrower than people expect. Between 75% and 85% quality, JPEG artifacts are essentially invisible at normal viewing size while the file is a fraction of the original. Below 60% the edges around text and hard lines start to break up.

Questions
Which format gives the smallest file?
WEBP, by roughly 25–35% over JPEG at matched visual quality. Every current browser supports it. Use JPEG only when the file has to open in older software, and PNG only when you need lossless output or transparency.
Why did my PNG get bigger when I compressed it?
PNG is lossless, so the quality slider does nothing for it — and a photograph stored as PNG is always larger than the same photo as JPEG. For photos, switch the output format to JPEG or WEBP.
Can I compress to an exact file size?
Not directly. Lower the quality in steps and watch the output weight shown after each run — it updates immediately, so two or three attempts will land you close.
Does compressing repeatedly degrade an image?
Yes. Every JPEG save re-quantises the image, and the damage accumulates. Always compress from the original rather than from a previously compressed copy.
