Questions

Seconds or milliseconds?

Unix time is defined in seconds, but JavaScript, Java and many APIs use milliseconds. This tool detects which you pasted by magnitude — anything above about 100 billion is treated as milliseconds — and tells you which it assumed.

What is the 2038 problem?

Systems storing Unix time in a signed 32-bit integer overflow on 19 January 2038 and wrap to 1901. Modern 64-bit systems are unaffected; some embedded and legacy software still is not.

Why does the local time not match my colleague's?

Because a Unix timestamp is a fixed moment in UTC, and each of you renders it in your own timezone. The UTC line in the table is the one to quote in a bug report.
